Ardeer Thistle failed to score for the third consecutive home game today as they lost 3-0 to Craigmark Burntonians. The quality of the game was hampered by the strong wind and some driving rain.
Ardeer, with the wind behind them, had the majority of chances in the first half. The best chance was early in the game when a Dougie Ellis shot was blocked by a defender after the goalkeeper had been rounded. Greg Kean later shot wide from the left wing and a wind-assisted Toni Paton cross almost found its way into the net. Craigmark were caught offside on several occasions and also spurned a great chance late on when the ball was skied over the bar from close range.
After the scoreless first half, Craigmark started to improve and opened the scoring in the 50th minute. Their number 7 made a good run into space on the right wing, received the ball and sent in a low cross into the box. One of their strikers then put the ball past Davie Richardson in the Ardeer goal. They had a chance to make it 2-0 soon after after a Tam Latta error, but the long range effort just went past the post.
Ardeer werent out of the game until the 84th minute when keeper Davie Richardson brought down an opposition striker in the box. He was booked for the challenge as he was not the last man but he couldnt save the resultant penalty. Ardeer debutant Frankie Nolan saw his effort go over the bar and substitute Craig Little almost got onto the end of Ryan Wason's cross but Ardeer couldnt find a goal. Craigmark scored their third goal in injury time when they scored a close range effort after a low cross from the right wing.
Overall, it was a disappointing result for Ardeer. They played well in the first half and there wasnt a noticeable difference between the two teams apart from the scoreline. The recent lack of goals is a worry but hopefully the drought will stop away to Lugar next week. Striker Dougie Ellis went off injured late in the second half but hopefully he's ok to play again soon. |
