Ardeer Thistle succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Troon in a well attended game at Ardeer Stadium. Troon's first goal was a back post header in the 17th minute. They sealed victory in the 65th minute when their number 10 did well when under pressure from two defenders to finish past Davie Richardson. Troon should also have had a third goal. Substitute number 17 was left clear after a Mark McKinnon mistake and got the ball past the keeper but shot wide of the open goal.
Ardeer were the second best team in the game but had some chances of their own, mostly in the second half. A Derek Gemmell effort was well held, and their defence also did well to deal with Ryan Wasons low cross. Midfielder Sandy Wylie embarked on a quality forward run with the ball, but he went for a cross when going for goal would have probably been the better option. Unfortunately Ardeer did not make best use of set pieces throughout the game, with the majority of free kicks and corners being easily dealt with by the solid Troon defence.
Ardeer's best player was Craig Fairbairn at centre back who showed good aerial ability and made some crucial challenges at the back. |
