Ardeer were 2-0 up against Hurlford, but failed to hold on to their lead and went down to a 4-2 defeat.
Dougie Ellis beat two opposition players and hit a powerful shot past the goalkeeper for Ardeer's first on 5 minutes. Ardeer played well afterwards in the first half and scored a second in the 37th minute when Darren Quinn's cross-cum-shot from the left flank sailed into the net. It was his 6th goal of the season. At this point, it looked like Ardeer would avenge their League Cup defeat in August as Hurlford were struggling. Unfortunately, they scored right on half time with a scrambled goal to be it 2-1.
That late first half goal seemed to rejuvenate the home team as they were much improved after the break. Their equaliser came after Craig Fairbairn was harshly judged to have fouled an opposition striker in the box and Hurlford scored from the penalty kick. Darren Quinn soon after hit the bar from close range but Hurlford started to take control of the game. The Hurlford number 4 was sent off after 65 minutes but Ardeer could not take advantage. Hurlford took the lead in the 75th minute, and after Sandy Wylie was sent off for a second bookable offence scored their fourth and final goal with a headed effort four minutes later.
Overall, it was disappointing to see Ardeer lose after such a good start but at least the team improved on the 7-1 defeat in the League Cup. The team are really starting to gel and should start to consistently get better results soon. |
