Ardeer Thistle 2 Kilwinning Rangers 7
An Ardeer squad containing more than a few new faces did well against Kilwinning Rangers in the first half of this friendly match but eventually succumbed to a five goal defeat.
The Buffs went on the attack from the outset and were rewarded with an early goal five minutes into the match when one of their strikers converted a chance from close range. The away side were clearly the better team but Ardeer surprised them by equalising twenty minutes later when trialist Brett Anderson finished well past Fraser Stewart. For the rest of the half Ardeer gave their opponents a run for their money and despite conceding a headed goal in the 39th minute would be happy with their performance at half-time.
The Buffs made a few half-time substitutions and they began to take control of the game again early in the second half. A goal on 56 minutes was followed 10 minutes later by a 30 yard screamer from Kris Mitchell that gave Ardeer goalkeeper Joe Murphy no chance as it flew high into the top corner of the net. The home team got themselves back in the game a few minutes later with a good goal from Scott Reid but Kilwinning scored three more times in the last 20 minutes to win the game 7-2.
Despite the defeat there were certainly some positives to take from the game and with a few more players expected to be available to play shortly, hopefully we can build a team that gets Ardeer off the bottom of the table. |
